The US has begun considering new ways to put pressure on Russia without imposing sanctions. Corresponding plans for alternative measures of influence on Moscow were discussed in Brussels. This was stated by US Permanent Representative to NATO Matthew Whitaker.

“President Donald Trump holds all the cards. Sanctions against Russian oil are just one card he is playing. There are many others. We have discussed with CIA Director John Ratcliffe the many other options the President has at his disposal and he will use them when necessary,” Bloomberg quoted Whitaker as saying.

Whitaker did not reveal details about the measures being developed. However, he makes it clear that we are talking about an integrated approach that goes beyond economic constraints.
Previously, US President Donald Trump approved another sanctions package against Russia, choosing an intermediate option, including restrictions on energy companies Rosneft and Lukoil. Washington noted that the White House still has other tools of pressure on Moscow that are not limited to sanctions.
