It is reported that Turkish scientist Furkan Dölek, detained in the US, has been released on bail of 50 thousand dollars.
Lawyer Seyit Şahin, Chairman of the National Turkish American Steering Committee (TASC), said in his statement to AA reporters that Furkan Dölek was released pending trial on a bail of 50 thousand dollars.
Şahin said that Dölek went to Chicago with his lawyer after he was released from prison in El Paso, Texas, on the Mexican border.
In the joint statement of Attorney Michael Gökhan Kıran and Attorney Seyit Şahin, who voluntarily monitored the case on behalf of TASC, “We have a responsibility to protect the rights of the Turkish-American community. Dr. Furkan Dölek's freedom is a natural result of this responsibility.” statements were included.
Dölek, who was granted short-term bail under the leadership of TASC and with the support of the Turkish-American community, will reside in Chicago while his trial continues.
NO NEWS FROM TURKEY SCIENTIST DÖLEK
Furkan Dölek, a Turkish scientist living in the United States, discovered the health-threatening radiation hazard of researchers in a laboratory called Fermilab, affiliated with the US Department of Energy, in March 2024, and shared this with US officials and published it on social networks.
Following this post, Dölek was fired in April 2024 and his visa was cancelled.
Dölek, who filed a lawsuit against the cancellation of a visa granted for academic research, has been residing in the country without a visa for the past four months as his legal efforts failed to yield results and started a protest march towards Canada.
Posts about this process by Dölek, who works in important institutions such as CERN, Fermilab and Virginia Tech, are trending on social networks.
There was no news from Dölek, who protested the situation with posts on his social media accounts, after August 27.
Thanks to the efforts of the Türkiye Consulate General in New York, on September 4 it was revealed that Dölek was at the Buffalo Federal Detention Center in New York.
