The famous Simav chestnuts, produced around 2 thousand tons per year in the Simav district of Kütahya, continue to be one of the indispensable flavors during the winter months.
Chestnuts, a particularly popular dish on cold winter nights, have taken over the shelves. Simav chestnuts have been registered as geographical indications, attracting great interest from locals as well as people from outside the city.
İhsan Kahraman, who has been selling chestnuts in Simav for many years, said the sales were very effective. “Simav chestnuts cost between 200-250 TL/kg. Its most outstanding features are its abundant starch and sweet aroma. The skin is thin, easy to cook and the taste is delicious. We work day and night so that our people can eat it,” said Kahraman.
While it is said that Simav chestnuts have an important place in the region both economically and culturally, sellers say this year's harvest is at a level that can satisfy consumers.
