Social media phenomenon Murat Övüç was arrested for “inciting public hatred and hostility.”
Istanbul Küçükçekmece Chief Prosecutor's Office opened an investigation after Murat Övüç shared a video wearing a hijab on social networks.
Övüç, who was detained by the police team, was taken to the court after procedures at the police station.
The criminal justice of the peace agency on duty decided to arrest Övüç on the charge of “inciting hatred and hostility among the public.”

In the indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Prosecutor's Office in the investigation against Övüç, who was detained and released at the beginning of the year, regarding the words she said in the video she shot with a scarf, a prison sentence of up to 4 years and 6 months was requested for “openly inciting public hatred and hostility”.
