The most comprehensive operation against DAESH to date was carried out in Istanbul. Simultaneous raids were carried out at 124 addresses in 17 districts and 133 suspects were arrested.
The confiscated weapons remind us of something similar to the Reina attack carried out on New Year's Eve 2017.
However, this plan of the suspects was prevented by the intervention of the Istanbul Police. 133 suspects, including 12 wanted people with red warrants, were taken into custody.
Bullets were found from the suspects
Long-barreled guns, automatic weapons, pistols, walkie-talkies… After the raids, police discovered a warehouse of weapons.
It is possible that the attackers planned to act in a coordinated manner by communicating via radio.
SEARCH FOR PEOPLE ON SOCIAL MEDIA
It was determined that the suspects, most of whom were foreigners, were active users of social networks.
Accordingly, the suspects are described as “lone terrorists” acting alone, receiving instructions from members of the organization in Syria and Afghanistan.
The suspects are mostly foreigners, especially those of Central Asian descent, who have long been tracked. The houses they lived in were identified one by one.
Anti-terrorism and special operations teams simultaneously raided 124 locations in 17 districts.
More than a thousand police from different units participated in the operation, which was also supported by air. Security cameras recorded those moments.
Interrogation of suspects continues at the Anti-Terrorism Branch.
