Statement from Muazzez Abacı's daughter: “My mother suffered an adverse reaction to antibiotic treatment”

Saba Abacı, daughter of Muazzez Abacı, one of the masters of Turkish classical music, who passed away on his birthday, November 12, has made a statement about the cause of her mother's death.

Preparations are continuing to bring the body of Muazzez Abacı (78), one of the legends of Turkish classical music, who died of a heart attack while in the United States of America (USA), to Türkiye.

Abacı's body was brought to the American Religious Center in Maryland from Rochester, New York, where he died.

Abacı's daughter Aslı Saba Abacı and granddaughter Sera Anderson, who will accompany her body to Türkiye, were also present at the Religious Center, where relatives of the artist's family gathered.

Speaking about her mother's death, Aslı Saba Abacı said: “We took my mother to the hospital for a heart attack two weeks ago. Then, we went to the hospital early. An angiogram was performed immediately. The heart artery was cleared. For a day or two, she was fine. But due to complications of that angiogram, other organs were also affected. She could not recover. In other words, the kidneys and heart were not in harmony with each other. somehow”. he said.

Abacı gave the following answers to questions about whether the hospital was negligent in the incident:

“Of course, there was nothing intentional. I just started hearing that many people can experience such complications after an angiogram. Antibiotic treatment was started. My mother also had an adverse reaction to that antibiotic.”

Once preparations are completed, Abacı's body will be taken from Washington to the airport to be flown to Istanbul via Turkish Airlines.

ABACI'S INCREASE PROGRAM HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED

Muazzez Abacı will be sent off on his final journey on November 17. The artist's manager, Taner Budak, stated in a post on his social media account that Abacı's farewell ceremony will be held on November 16 at 12:00 at the Atatürk Cultural Center.

Abacı's funeral will be held at Ankara Kocatepe Mosque on November 17, after noon prayers, and he will be buried at Cebeci Asri Cemetery.

Muazzez Abacı suffered a heart attack in the United States, where he was visiting his daughter Aslı Saba Abacı, and fought for his life in the intensive care unit after being hospitalized. The news of Abacı's death was announced by his manager Taner Budak on 12 November.

In a statement on his social media account, Budak said: “With great sadness, we lost artist Muazzez Abacı on his 78th birthday on November 12, 2025. He will always be remembered with love, a smiling face and a beautiful heart.” He used the following expressions.

In his statement on October 31, Budak said that Abacı had an angiogram last week due to a heart condition and a stent was inserted, and that the contrast fluid given to Abacı during the angiogram caused problems in his kidneys. Budak also said that Abacı was placed in the intensive care unit because his kidneys could not function properly, his lungs retained fluid and therefore he had breathing problems.
