In the statement of the Chief Prosecutor's Office, it was said:
“An ex officio investigation has been launched against CHP Chairman Özgür Özel for Insulting the President and Insulting an Official by virtue of his position, due to the words he made in part of his speech at his party's rally held today in the Ümraniye district of our city, directed at members of the judiciary who are conducting investigations against the 'Criminal Organization itself' İmamoğlu', and spoke to our President, saying, 'From now on, please take care of the people around you, the people you instruct, the dog that troubles us, your dog' initiated “Investigations will continue with determination and meticulousness and will be announced to the public.”
MINISTER OF JUSTICE TUNÇ: “LACK OF POLITICAL ETHICS ATTITUDE”
Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç also announced the investigation on his social media account.
Tunç described the statements of Özel in question as “insolent” and said, “An investigation has been launched by the Ankara and Istanbul Chief Prosecutor's Office regarding CHP Chairman Özgür Özel's outrageous words against our President and his speeches directed at members of the judiciary, on the grounds of “insulting the President” and “insulting a public official due to his duties.” him” according to the Turkish Penal Code.
Tunç noted the following: “The vile, ugly and aggressive attitude of the Chairman of the CHP is not only a lack of political ethics but also a great disrespect for the state traditions and common values of our people. Politics is a way of serving the nation. It does not try to weaken the institutions of the state with offensive, cruel or hateful words. No one can doubt that we will resist any attack on the national will and independence of the judiciary. Hateful language towards the highest authority of our state and members of the judiciary is unacceptable. No one, regardless of their position, “No matter what, he has no privileges, he is not above the law. These hateful statements will certainly receive a worthy response before the law.”
WHY WAS THE INVESTIGATION OPEN?
While reacting to the arrest of Ekrem İmamoğlu in a private protest, he made the following statements, which are the subject of investigation:
“You become heroes by serving this country, by entering their hearts, and if necessary, by not bowing an inch to them. Our heroes are lying there with their honor. From now on, take care of those of you who order those around you and take care of your dog that messes with us. I say this much. Enough, enough. From now on, if I hear that I'm not worthy, you will hear what you deserve worth. From now on, don't mess with us, you'll hear much worse things.” Today, he says 'heat, transmission, axle'. What about me? People in these squares say 'right', 'law', 'justice'.”
During his own protest, he also made accusations against Istanbul Chief Prosecutor Akın Gürlek. Özel claimed that Gürlek was appointed as a member of the board of directors of a company belonging to a public institution abroad in 2024 and resigned from this position nine months later.
