Last night, a drone entering Turkish airspace was shot down by an F-16. Work continues to reach the UAV wreckage.
The drone that entered Turkish airspace over the Black Sea was tracked by F-16s and was shot down near Elmadağ district on the Çankırı-Ankara line.
Continued efforts to target the drone's wreckage have alarmed the Turkish Armed Forces.
Radar signatures of unidentified drones were detected over the Black Sea on Monday night.
According to the information obtained, an alarm response order was given to the Air Force F-16 fighters as they headed east towards Ankara's Polatlı district via Çankırı.
PASSENGER PLANES ARE GOING TO KONYA
The aircraft waited for the UAV to move to a point far from residential areas to intervene. Within minutes of the drone being shot down, four passenger planes approaching Ankara Esenboğa airport had to divert to Konya airport.
According to available information, gendarmerie teams are conducting search and combing operations in and around the coordinates where F16 fired drones to reach the debris.
It is said that a delegation from the Air Force Command was also involved in the effort to reach the wreckage.
TO WHICH COUNTRY DO UAVS BE REQUIRED TO BELONG?
After the wreckage of the drone was found, it is hoped that details such as in which country it was manufactured, in which country it was used and whether it was carrying explosives will become clear after examining its parts.
It is believed that the unidentified drone belonged to Ukraine or Russia when it entered Turkish airspace over the Black Sea. However, the possibility that this UAV is owned by a third country is also taken into account.
Although it has been pointed out that Russia and Ukraine use multiple drones almost daily, it has been reported that the UAV may have gone out of control and headed towards Türkiye due to electronic jamming and interception methods widely used by both countries.
