Heavy rain paralyzed life in Izmir. Streets in many parts of the city turned into lakes. Some workplaces were flooded. Flooding occurred in Çanakkale due to increased flow rates of the Kepez and Sarıçay Streams. People living near Kızılkilise stream in Muğla were evacuated.
ROAD TURNED INTO A LAKE IN IZMIR
Due to the downpour that started in the evening and continued intermittently in the city, roads and sidewalks in Kıbrıs Şehitleri, Alsancak and Kordon Street areas were flooded with water and manholes overflowed.
While drivers and pedestrians had difficulty moving forward, some vehicles still moved in a controlled manner on flooded roads.
Many workplaces and the ground floors of several buildings in the area were flooded. Business owners, employees, building residents and city crews attempted to drain the accumulated water.
Many businesses in the area were found closed.
Flooding occurred in some streams whose flow rates increased due to rain.
Trader Adem Kandemir told AA reporters that they always encounter similar problems after a downpour.
Stating that the water was not draining from the infrastructure, Kandemir said, “They are trying to drain the water because there are no sewers in the area. Water is rising from the main drains. People closed their bread and butter shops in the face of the downpour and left.” he said.
Şahin Hızır, a business owner in Kordon, said life was paralyzed after the torrential rain.
Hızır said that people could not go out due to puddles and said:
“Last year, 2 people died in our area due to floods and electricity leaks. The authorities need to find a solution to this problem. Instead of shutting down traffic, it is necessary to renew the infrastructure and allow the people of Izmir to move more comfortably and freely here. Alsancak is the pearl of Izmir, but its recent abandonment makes us as operators and residents very sad.”
On the other hand, in Çeşme district, sea water overflowed due to a strong storm and some roads were flooded.
KEPEZ STREAM OVERFLOWS IN ÇANAKKALE
In Çanakkale, flooding occurred in the Kepez stream due to heavy rains and some areas were covered with water due to the increased flow rate of the Sarıçay stream.
The heavy rain that has continued in the city center since the evening caused the flow rate of the Kepez stream in Kepez town to increase.
The water overflowed the banks, flooded fishermen's shelters and damaged a number of boats.
The area around the road closed during last week's flood was also flooded.
On the other hand, when the filling rate of Atikhisar Dam reached 100%, the flow rate of Sarıçay also increased.
While some sections along the stream were covered with water due to water from the dam overflowing, vehicles in the Friday Market parking area were approached and removed from the area by Provincial Police traffic police teams.
Çanakkale Municipality teams also started cleanup work in areas where water accumulation occurred.
AYDIN FLOOD WARNING: HOUSES NEXT TO THE LINE HAVE BEEN EVACUATED
After continuous rains in Aydın in recent days, the rapid increase in flow rate in Kızılkilise stream has caused risks to people living in Atatürk District.
Teams from the Söke District Police Department and Söke City went door-to-door in the neighborhood, notifying residents and starting the evacuation process.
Residents who were evacuated by public service vehicles allocated by the city government under the coordination of the Söke District Government were placed in hotels in the district. It was reported that the evacuation was carried out in a controlled manner and people were taken to a safe area.
Deputy Mayor Şakir Gülmez and Şeref Başar, who inspected the area, met with Arda Canbul Neighborhood Chief and residents. Officials received information from teams working on the scene and stressed that developments were being closely monitored and all necessary precautions were being taken.
