Located 5 km east of Kule district, northwest of Tuz Lake, Küçük Lake completely dried up four years ago due to the dry season and a decline in groundwater levels in recent years.
The lake is starting to hold water again after recent heavy rains in the area.
It is estimated that the current occupancy rate of Lake Küçük, which lies on the migratory path of birds and is an important viewing spot for birdwatchers, has reached 40%.
There are nine small islands in the lake where migratory birds breed. The lake is a breeding and migratory place for waterfowl.
Summer ducks, Hungarian ducks, Pochards, Hornbills, Swordbills, Great Plovers, Mediterranean gulls and terns Laugh in the lake.
Black-necked Grebe, shelduck, stilt, stilt, avocet, Akça plover use Lake Sakarca for breeding and wintering.
The lake is also known as a breeding ground for the world's protected hornbills. Recently, it was determined that there are 172 species of birds in the lake and 54 species breed here. The area is known for its importance as a habitat for flamingos, which are starting to disappear in Europe.
