CHP spokesman Deniz Yücel said that Ekrem İmamoğlu's indictment was a political document and that the CHP targeted it directly.
Ekrem İmamoğlu's indictment was presented to Istanbul's 40th High Criminal Court yesterday.
CHP spokesman Deniz Yücel reacted to the indictment and said, “We can say that it is a political document targeting the corporate identity and legal status of the CHP.” he said.
Yücel said, “The statement 'aiming to take over the Republican People's Party and nominate the leader of the organization in the presidential election' in the indictment, the use of the phrase 'octopus arm' that President Erdoğan has used many times before, and the notification to the Chief Prosecutor's Office of the Supreme Court of Appeal of the filing of the termination of the Republican People's Party under Article 69 of the Constitution, are the most basic evidence for this decision.” he said.
GREAT “POLITICAL STATEMENT”.
Yücel said the indictment was “political propaganda.”
Stating that there was no concrete evidence in the indictment, Yücel said, “We found that most of the statements 'as far as I heard, I heard, as far as I know, I think, I guess' were included, and the number of secret witnesses, initially 3, increased to 15.” he said.
Adding that the indictment had been prepared and was unlikely to affect the evidence, Yücel said, “Since there is no longer any suspicion of evidence tampering, our companions have the right to be tried without detention.” he said.
DEMANDING PENALTY FOR İMAMOĞLU
İmamoğlu asked for a prison sentence ranging from 828 years and 2 months to 2,352 years.
In the indictment, it was asserted that the public lost 160 billion liras during İmamoğlu's tenure as Mayor of Beylikdüzü and Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.
