A ceremony was held at the Taksim Republic Monument on the occasion of October 19, Mukhtars Day.
Today, October 19, is Mukhtar Day.
Many heads as well as representatives of the Istanbul Governorate, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and the Istanbul Mukhtars Federation attended the ceremony. Speaking after a moment of silence and singing of the National Anthem, Seval Özkan, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Istanbul Mukhtar Federation, said the mukhtar institution has a deep structure dating back to the Ottoman Empire and Atatürk emphasized the importance of the mukhtar institution which he described as the foundation of democracy. Expressing that the leaders act as a bridge between residents in the neighborhood and state agencies, Özkan said that they are the seeing eyes, ears and hands of the state that solves people's problems. Özkan stated that the chief directorates established in the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the chief directorates established in centrally run municipalities have increased the quality of services.
