Scientists from the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Institute of Space Research and the Institute of Plant Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported that geomagnetic conditions have come alive after several days of quiet.

The announcement clarified that an increase in the geomagnetic index was expected, based on previous warnings about magnetic storms. A large coronal hole has been observed on the Earth-facing side of the Sun for several days now, and the only question is when it will start affecting Earth.
– The speed of the solar wind has not yet increased significantly, so the magnetosphere carries everything away quite indifferently. Geomagnetic indices have come very close to the Kp=4 level, which separates the quiet state from the disturbed state, but have not yet surpassed it. However, this is only a matter of time. Most likely, tomorrow and possibly the day after tomorrow there will be a notable storm, the message said.
Overall, the lab added, the Sun is currently in a state of low activity – as if waiting for powerful explosion centers to appear on the visible side.
