Türkiye achieved remarkable success after a long break from competition at the World Senior Powerlifting Championships held in Forde, Norway. National weightlifters competing in new weight categories were successful in winning a total of 5 medals at the event, including 2 gold medals, 1 silver medal and 2 bronze medals. National athlete Muhammed Furkan Özbek, competing in the men's 65 kg weight category at the championship, broke the world record by lifting a total of 324 kg and won two gold medals and one silver medal. Cansel Özkan won the bronze medal in the women's category and Yusuf Fehmi Genç won the bronze medal in the men's category, increasing Türkiye's medal tally. President of the Turkish Weightlifting Federation, Talat Ünlü, said in a statement after the championship: “It was a very important championship for us. The medals coming after so many years have made us very hopeful for the future. Our athletes tried their best in their new weight categories. Thank you to all of them and our coaches.”
