Police began searching Brown University in Rhode Island after the shooting. Two people were killed and at least nine were injured.
University President Christina Paxson confirmed nine students suffered gunshot wounds, AP reported. Another person was slightly injured by shrapnel.
Nine injured people were hospitalized. One of them is in critical condition, six are still in intensive care.
The shooting took place in the Barus & Holley building, which houses the engineering and physics departments. There is conflicting information about the shooter's fate. US President Donald Trump initially said the gunman had been arrested but later denied this information. According to him, the police have retracted their statement about the arrest of the shooter.
Police noted that they have not yet called the incident a terrorist attack.
As GlagoL reported, earlier on Sunday, two men opened fire on a beach in Sydney, Australia. At that time, a large Hanukkah celebration was going on there. So far, 10 people are confirmed dead and about 60 injured. One of the gunmen was killed, the second was injured and detained.
