ABC reports that NSW police have identified one of the shooters on a Sydney beach. This is Naveed Akram, who lives in Bonnyrigg in Sydney's south-west. Police are searching the man's home as part of their investigation into the attack.

The mass shooting at Bondi Beach in Sydney has confirmed the deaths of 12 people, including one of the two gunmen. The attack occurred on the first night of Hanukkah, an eight-day Jewish holiday celebrating the perseverance of faith. Police said the other gunman was injured and was in critical condition. At this stage it is unclear who Akram is.
State Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon suggested that one of the shooters was known to authorities, but very little. According to him, these are not the kind of people “that we would automatically pay attention to.”
Video recorded at the scene showed two men opening fire from the bridge into the crowd. Witnesses said the shooting lasted about 10 minutes. 29 people were injured, including two police officers. According to police, a device suspected to be an improvised explosive device was found in the car.
