The price of powdered pistachios per kilogram exceeds 3 thousand liras. This has led to food fraudsters using food coloring and peas.
The fact that the price of a kilogram of powdered pistachios exceeded 3 thousand liras shocked the scammers. To turn the rising prices into an opportunity, ingredient manufacturers and factories began using peas, roasted peanuts and concentrated food coloring instead of real pistachios in pistachio desserts. With this method, in which they capture the exact characteristics of pistachios in terms of shape and color, they endanger public health and deceive them economically. The risk of imitations and adulterations in baklava and pistachio desserts is increasing day by day.
Zeynep Geyik, a dessert manufacturer in Adana, said in his statement that the fake products were mixed with concentrated food coloring to give them a pistachio color. Recommending to prioritize trusted and well-known businesses, Geyik says: “Excessive and unconscious consumption of food coloring can cause digestive disorders, allergic reactions and other health problems in the long run.” He warned to be careful when buying sweets for New Year's celebrations.
