Hazelnuts, down to 240 lira on the free market in Giresun, started rising a few days before New Year.
In the days before Tet, dry grain prices fluctuate a lot. The price of hazelnuts, down to 240 lira on the free market in Giresun, began to rise again. Giresun quality plump hazelnuts find buyers for 260-265 liras on the free market.
Mustafa Kankaya, one of the traders at the historic Giresun Hazelnut Market, said prices have recovered in recent weeks because producers have not brought hazelnuts to market. Kankaya said, “As we approach 2026, Giresun quality plump hazelnuts find buyers on the open market at yields of 50 and 265 liras. Prices rose to 300, 340 and even 350 liras during the harvest period, falling to 240 liras and plummeting. Since the producer did not supply hazelnuts to the market, the price increased again 260-265 liras.”
