The death of a 25-year-old university student in Ağrı after eating cake once again reminds us of the dangers posed by food allergies. Experts stress that allergy sufferers and their families should be extra careful and say there is a life-threatening risk if precautions are not taken. News: Sinan Kunter
Remziye Horuz, a university student in Ağrı who was allergic to eggs and fell ill after eating a cake her friend bought for her birthday, died at the hospital where she had been treated since December 2.
Experts draw attention to the deadly danger.
There is no cure for congenital food allergies. It often presents symptoms in childhood. If children or adults with allergies do not pay attention to what they eat, it will cause a life-threatening reaction called anaphylaxis in the body.
Patients also need to be examined by a specialist to determine the level of allergy.
BE CAREFUL WITH THIS FOOD GROUP!
Pediatric Allergy and Immunology Specialist Professor Dr. Gülbin Bingöl drew attention to food groups and said: “The most dangerous ones are nuts, followed by seafood.” he said.
Pointing out that eggs are also dangerous, Bingöl said: “Egg whites in particular are proteins with a high risk of anaphylactic shock.” he said.
WHAT SHOULD YOU DO DURING A CRISIS?
Warning that patients with severe food allergies must always carry an adrenaline auto-injector with them, Bingöl said: “In case of symptoms, an emergency injection is required. You should apply to the nearest medical center by ambulance.” he said.
