SYDNEY, December 19. /TASS/. Australian police have arrested seven men suspected of planning a terrorist attack in one of Sydney's southwestern suburbs. This was reported by ABC radio, citing sources from the New South Wales police department.

Investigators believe the men, who were arrested on December 18 and arrived in Sydney from Victoria, “practiced radical Islamist ideology” and were likely “planning to commit acts of violence”.
State Police Deputy Commissioner David Hudson said “the only weapon found when searching these men was a knife and there was no gun.” “We had some indications that they intended to visit Bondi Beach. We decided to detain them because now, after the atrocities that occurred last Sunday (in Sydney), … we are not going to take the risk of waiting to see what they can do,” he said.
