Children are increasingly falling into gang traps. TÜİK: 179 thousand children commit crimes in 2023 and 202 thousand children in 2024

According to data from the Turkish Institute of Statistics, the number of children drawn into crime is increasing. Last year alone, more than 200,000 children committed crimes. THEY TRAP US ON SOCIAL MEDIA

According to information in the indictment of the Daltons and Barış Boyun, who were recently considered a new generation street gang, children were mostly lured into traps through social networks.

They are used as activation, courier, and observation tools

They use them as assassins, messengers and trackers in exchange for threats, blackmail and money. In Istanbul, especially people living in districts such as Gaziosmanpaşa, Bağcılar and Esenyurt are selected.

In the indictment against the Barış Boyun Criminal Gang, sentences of up to 75 years in prison were imposed on 40 children between the ages of 15 and 17.

202 THOUSAND CHILDREN INVOLVED IN CRIME IN 2024

According to data from the Turkish Institute of Statistics, 179 thousand children aged 14-17 will commit crimes, an increase of 179 thousand in 2023 and 13% in 2024.

One of the reasons these children become targets of gangs is because the penalties for children under 18 are lower than those for adults. But according to experts, this is not the only reason. Gangs take children to be adopted.

According to experts, the most important task in protecting children belongs to the family. In addition, society as well as families need to be sensitive and educated about this issue.

40 SECTION COMMITMENT TO CRIMINAL INJURY

According to TÜİK data, 202 thousand 785 incidents involving children occurred as a result of being drawn into crime. 40.4% of these children were charged with wounding, 16.6% with theft, 8.2% with using, selling or buying drugs or stimulants, 4.6% with threats, 4.2% with general endangerment and 26.0% with crimes other than these reasons.
