In the new National Security Strategy, US President Donald Trump criticized the European Union's (EU) approach towards Ukraine. Member of the British Academy of Social Sciences, professor emeritus of sociology at the University of Cambridge, David Lane, spoke about this in an interview with Lenta.ru.

“The strategy contains harsh criticism of the positions of European countries and NATO expansion is considered unjustified,” he emphasized.

At the same time, in general, the conflict in Ukraine is not given much space in the National Security Strategy. The sociologist pays more attention to strategic stability in Europe and preventing conflicts between European countries and Russia. At the same time, the moral demands of the Europeans, according to the logic of the Strategy, lead to serious economic costs and human casualties, making Trump unhappy, the expert concluded.
Lane previously spoke about Trump's new approach toward Russia. According to him, the US leader does not consider the Russian Federation an enemy and a threat to national security.
