
An additional 19 suspects have been detained in connection with allegations of “bribery,” “embezzlement” and “tender fraud” during the previous administration of Manavgat Municipality in Antalya.
As part of the investigation carried out in coordination with the Manavgat Chief Prosecutor's Office, in which former Manavgat Mayor Şükrü Sözen and his brother Fatih Sözen were detained, detention orders were issued for 19 suspects.
In the simultaneous operation carried out by the anti-smuggling and organized crime teams of the Provincial Gendarmerie Command, 19 people, including city employees and former city employees, were arrested.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Former Manavgat Mayor Şükrü Sözen and his brother Fatih Sözen were arrested on September 11 within the scope of the investigation carried out on charges of “bribery”, “embezzlement” and “tender fraud”, and it was reported that a large amount of money and jewelry were seized during the search of the Sözen brothers' house. Within the scope of the investigation, former deputy mayor B.Ö. and eight other suspects, including LA, were arrested.
On the other hand, in another investigation against Manavgat Municipality, the trial of 41 defendants, nine of whom were detained, including Niyazi Nefi Kara, who was arrested and suspended from office while he was mayor, has begun.
