Since it is difficult to bake bread in Şırnak during the winter months, women bake bread by helping each other on sunny days. The women who bake 200 loaves of bread for each house are trying to survive the winter by working together.
Women's hard work continues before winter in Şırnak's Beytüşşebap district. Women had to bake 200 loaves of bread for each household to consume during the winter months.
Women gather on sunny days and bake bread for the whole family every day. The women prepare for winter by helping each other to maintain this tradition for many years.
Because the winter months are cold and snowy in district centers and villages, women take advantage of the sunny weather to bake bread from early morning until dark. They consume bread stored in the cupboard during the winter months.
The woman named Cemile Cin said they had been baking bread for many days. “Every year we bake bread and stock it during these months. All the women gather and each do a job,” said Cin.
We bake bread for a household every two days, today we will bake over 100 breads. We bake bread according to the number of people in the house. We stay home because the winter months are very cold. Now the weather is nice, we are chatting and working. It is a tradition that has been around for many years. “We all try to do our jobs by helping each other,” he said.
Depending on the number of people in the house, the women's bread baking during the autumn months would continue until the snow fell.
