The investigation into “political espionage” by the Terrorist Crime Investigation Department of the Istanbul Chief Prosecutor's Office has been completed.
In the statement of the Chief Prosecutor's Office, it was stated that an indictment was prepared and a case was filed against detained suspects Ekrem İmamoğlu Necati Özkan, Hüseyin Gün and Merdan Yanardağ within the scope of investigation for “political espionage”.
HOW DID THE INVESTIGATION BEGIN?
It was determined that Hüseyin Gün, who was arrested in July for “espionage,” was involved in espionage activities, conducted his conversations over encrypted phones, and financed civil unrest in different countries.
The phone was encrypted and Hüseyin Gün's handwritten documents were examined. As a result of the investigation, photos of ammunition and military weapons were found that could not be obtained by civilian individuals or companies. In addition, passport photos of several Israeli citizens believed to be active in the military or political field in Israel were also discovered. The investigation revealed numerous exchanges with FETO members and consular officials of various countries.
85 MILLION LIRA TRANSACTION
During Hüseyin Gün's MASAK investigation, a large number of domestic and international money transfers were discovered, even though he did not have any commercial enterprises. It was emphasized that although there were no sales transactions, 85 million liras were withdrawn in cash from their accounts.
Upon examination of Hüseyin Gün's notebooks and documents, it was determined that he took daily notes on the people and organizations he met, passed information to foreign intelligence personnel, met face-to-face with Mustafa Özcan, who was described as the British Imam of FETO's senior management team, took note of Özcan's recommendations, and passed all this information to individuals belonging to a foreign country that the intelligence agency The alarm is determined to be active.

According to a statement from the prosecutor's office; Hüseyin Gün communicates through a program similar to the ByLock Talk and Chat programs used by FETO members. During conversations and correspondence with “Wickr”, one of the highly secure cryptographic communication programs that cannot be accessed from the outside; It was determined that a foreign intelligence officer sent Hüseyin Gün a remotely and secretly taken photo of a group, which included two former ministers.
MESSAGE TO NECATİ ÖZKAN
Suspect Hüseyin Gün also contacted suspect Necati Özkan, one of the managers of Ekrem İmamoğlu's for-profit criminal organization, through the same program. During the investigation, conversations were discovered in which Hüseyin Gün instructed Necati Özkan that “Murat Ongun's mobile phone was infected with spyware that could allow remote eavesdropping, therefore it was very important that Murat not bring his phone to the sensitive private campaign meetings that would be held with Ekrem Bey.”
JOINT MEETING WITH EKREM İMAMOĞLU
In response to this information, the Istanbul Chief Prosecutor's Office stated that the main purpose of the criminal organization Ekrem İmamoğlu was to obtain financial benefits and raise funds for the Presidential candidacy of the organization's leader, Ekrem İmamoğlu, that suspect Hüseyin Gün and suspect Necati Özkan cooperated in the 2019 local election campaign and took action by leaking confidential information about voters, that they created voter profiles and identified strategies by analyzing constituencies, that information about voters in this study was shared with foreign intelligence agencies, and determined that espionage had been committed.
In addition, it was determined that suspects Hüseyin Gün and Ekrem İmamoğlu were in contact and met.
CONTACT MERDAN YANARDAĞ
Within the scope of the investigation, it was stated that suspect Merdan Yanardağ had many contacts and correspondence related to espionage activities with suspect Hüseyin Gün, one of the managers of the Ekrem İmamoğlu Auto Crime Organization, that he organized press coverage of the election process, that he actively manipulated elections with the cooperation of foreign intelligence agencies during the year's local elections 2019, and thus committed the crime of espionage.
İMAMOĞLU: I KNOW HÜSEYİN GÜN WHEN I SEE HIM WITH SA
Ekrem İmamoğlu, whose statement was made within the scope of the investigation, said, “I know Merdan Yanardağ because he is a journalist. I have known Melih Geçek for about 12 years. He has held positions in the CHP before. I know that he has experience in IT. Necati Özkan is the manager of my political campaigns and also served as my advisor for five years. 2014, 2019 and the 2024 Local Elections I participated in. I don't remember knowing this person and the woman who was with him.
“I DON'T KNOW THE PERSON REMEMBERED IN THE LETTER IS ME”
İmamoğlu, who said in his statement that he did not know the “Wickr Me” application and did not have a membership, was asked if he was the person referred to by phrases such as “Mr. Mayor”, “İmamoğlu”, “Chairman”, “Mr. President”, “Ekrem”, “Mr. Ekrem”, “President Ekrem” and said, “I don't know if I am the person mentioned in the content of correspondence between people or not you claim to be Necati Özkan and Hüseyin Gün. But I guess “I may be the person mentioned as Ekrem İmamoğlu, but I have nothing to do with these correspondence,” he said.
HÜSEYİN GÜN BECAME A CONFESSIONAL MAN
Within the scope of the investigation, it was announced that Hüseyin Gün gave his statements to both the police and the prosecutor's office, asking to benefit from effective bribery provisions.
In his statement to the prosecutor's office, Gün said that he was a technology investor and had a monthly income of $100 thousand. Gün said that he met Necati Özkan on June 10, 2019, with the guidance of his spiritual mother SA, and they worked together with Özkan during the election process on March 31 and June 23, 2019.
Stating that Özkan was both İmamoğlu's political advisor and election campaign manager, Gün said the following in his statement:
“I have a company called 'Piiq'. I have partners named Darren, Aaron and Ed. The guy named Aaron is a former intelligence services officer. Aaron does all the analysis in the company along with the technical team. There is an Osint (open source intelligence) program, which is an umbrella program. Under this umbrella, there are things like 'darkweb' where you can access sensitive information on the internet. This is the underground network of the Internet. Necati Özkan asked me to take a look at Osint. During our research on Osint, I sent it to IMM “There are a lot of company emails and passwords. These e-mails and passwords provide access to the city government's deepest information. The flow of correspondence and information in the metropolis can be seen here, but it is only informative and cannot be interfered with. Necati Özkan has taken control of this world of Osint. Therefore, Necati Özkan can see how much data there can cost.”

Suspicious Gün went on to say that during the testing they performed in the Osint program, they found that there was more data than the first data they saw and continued as follows:
“Necati Özkan is the one who directed me to Osint. When you log in, you also have information that appears later. The data in Osint is there through hacking or when someone uploads it there. This is only a 10% chance that we have. We are also trying to create awareness by looking at internal correspondence through social media accounts using the software we have. I have shared these analyzes with Necati Özkan. The inventor of the software that we have very broad authority over as a company is American.” He is the director of closed operations for the Intelligence Agency. This person is my partner, Aaron. I will give the analyzes I have done to Necati Özkan, and he will pass them on to the president. The person referred to as 'Mayor' in the letter means the president.
MERDAN YANARDAĞ: I DIDN'T RECEIVE ANY MONEY FROM HÜSEYİN GÜN
Within the scope of the investigation, Yanardağ, in his statement to the prosecutor's office, said that he knew suspect Gün after seeing him walking next to a woman named SA, that he met her while visiting SA's house in Yeniköy, and that he met her about 5-7 times.
In his statement at the prosecutor's office, Merdan Yanardağ said: “I have never received money from Hüseyin Gün under any name until today. Either I remembered wrongly or he remembered wrongly. SA, whom he considers his mother, will provide a small amount of financial support. I have no information about the activities he mentioned in his statement. I do not know his relationship with Necati Özkan.”
