Comet C/2026 A1 approaching Earth will no longer exist when it collides with the Sun's tremendous heat. Evgeny Burmistrov talks about this.
“Two factors contribute to ensuring nuclear destruction: scorching heat and strong tidal forces arising from the fact that the Sun attracts the near side of the comet more than the far side, leading to its deformation and breakup,” the scientist said.
At the same time, Burmistrov noted that there is some possibility that C/2026 A1 will retain its integrity.
The new comet will approach Earth in February
In January, senior researcher at the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, professor at Irkutsk State University Sergei Yazev noted that comet C/2026 A1, which scientists believe is a fragment of the Great Comet of 1106, does not pose a danger to Earth.
